چکیده

In a 1989 study, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) determined that organophosphate pesticides used in orchard dormant spraying were being deposited on non-target row crops grown at distances less than and greater than 0.4 km from the site of pesticide application. The residues found on non-targeted crops may have been the result of drift during pesticide application or transport of pesticide in vapor or particulate phase from branch and soil surfaces after application. A field experiment was designed to determine if applying dormant spray oil in conjunction with diazinon affects mass deposition on branch surfaces. An increase in deposition on branch and s o i l surfaces would indicate a reduced mass available for off-site drift during an application. Experimental structures to which real and surrogate branches were attached were used to compare deposition rates between oil and non-oil applications. Fallout cards placed beneath the structures measured soil deposition. Statistical results indicated that dormant spray oil had no effect on the deposition of diazinon on branch or soil surfaces. However, the lack of difference between treatments may not be definitive because of differences in tank sample data. Deposition on surrogate branches was significantly different from that on real branches, limiting the use of surrogate branches in future studies. A second experiment examined the effect of dormant spray oil on pesticide transfer from treated surfaces to non-target vegetation. Experimental latticework structures were coated with an aqueous solution containing diazinon either with or without oil. Parsley plants were placed within the structures and samples were collected at 8 intervals over a 36-day period, Diazinon concentrations in parsley increased from day 3 to 21, then declined, Dormant spray oil had no effect on pesticide concentrations found in these samples over time. Results suggest that oil may not be useful in reducing pesticide transfer to non-target vegetation if those pesticides volatilize at rates or have octano1:water partition coefficients similar to those of diazinon.

An Experimental Investigation and Prediction of Asphaltene Deposition during Laminar Flow in the Pipes Using a Heat Transfer Approach

In this study, asphaltene deposition from crude oil has experimentally and theoretically been studied using a test loop and an accurate temperature monitoring during a laminar flow. The effects of oil velocity and surface temperature on the thickness of asphaltene deposition were investigated. The results show that asphaltene deposition thickness increases by increasing surface temperature. As ...

Investigation of vegetation changes using Soil Moisture Index in Gavkhouni wetland

Gavkhouni wetland located in the center of Iranchr('39')s Plateau is one of the important habitat for native flora and fauna. The present study aimed to evaluate change trend of vegetation types and Soil Moisture Index in Gavkhouni wetland since recent 16 years. Vegetation types were identified via field visitation during 2011-2017 and the maps were generated in ArcGIS 10.5. SMI is derived us...

Captopril Attenuates Diazinon-Induced Oxidative Stress: A Subchronic Study in Rats

Background: Diazinon (DZN) is an organophosphate pesticide commonly used for pest control in agriculture. It may engender a variety of negative effects in non-target species, including humans and animals. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the ameliorative properties of captopril (CAP), as a thiol containing an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, against DZN-induced oxidati...

Effect of spray volume on the deposition, viability and infectivity of entomopathogenic nematodes in a foliar spray on vegetables.

BACKGROUND Spray volume can influence the amount of free water on the leaf surface and subsequently the ability of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) to move. In this study, an investigation was made of the effect of spray volume (548, 730 and 1095 L ha(-1) ) on the deposition, viability and infectivity of EPNs against Galleria mellonella on savoy cabbage, cauliflower and leek. RESULTS Increas...

Spray deposition on plant surfaces: a modeling approach

Pesticides are widely used in agriculture for the management of pests (weeds, insects or pathogens). They are generally applied as a spray to cover the target (e.g. an insect, leaf surfaces or part of a plant) with pesticide-laden droplets. Spray may, however, be lost to nontarget areas within a crop through deposition on to the soil or on non-target plant surfaces. The plant architecture of th...
